No.9 Hants 83.11.1
|
This is a WD-only version of Hants 83.11.1 printed September 1879.
The important change shown here is that Walpole Road had been punched through the western defences of Gosport, augmenting the earlier angled entry via a narrow drawbridge over the moat. The new urinal at the junction stands out prominently, but to understand the map it is necessary to zoom in sufficiently to distinguish lines drawn in red ink from the printed lines in black. For example, where the new road crosses the moat one can see how the width of water is diminished; the curved lines showing this are in red and one can make out the blurred remains of the western edge of the water running in a straight line across the new road.
