The index map was drawn on a composite, consisting of the greater part of Hants 83 and the western third of Hants 84. The former is a WD-only edition with the revisions of 1873 &74 and with epd March 1879; the latter is (oddly) an ordinary sales edition. The sheetlines drawn on it are not very accurate: the draughtsman has shown a northern fringe of (1) that is beyond (7) and (10). The portion of Hants 84 is of a sales edition lacking the 1870s revisions: the area west of Eastney Fort is instructive, with development in progress on Hants 83 which does not continue across the sheet edge to Hants 84.
